Feeling Maxed out?

Half of managers do not make time for their professional development because they have “too many competing priorities.” They’re feeling maxed out, and it’s not surprising. Over time, the manager role has evolved, but there has been no clear transition in duty. Organisations haven’t assessed and adjusted their expectations of managers; they’ve only added to them.
Traditional managers are task-oriented and focus on objectives, outputs and outcomes. Modern managers behave more like leaders – they align teams, shape cultures and coach people. While they are still required to set goals, meet deadlines and deliver high performance, they must now do so in the context of building effective working relationships, fostering innovation and developing others.
In a recent survey, (Building Better Managers 2024 - mindtools / YouGov) 80% of managers surveyed were promoted because they were good at what they did - not because they wanted to manage people! And, above all other things, managers wanted to “measure their strengths and weaknesses to identify areas of improvement.”
At CAKE, we help managers and leaders find ways to achieve their aspirations - whether it is strategic thinking, coaching and mentoring or management & leadership development.
